The future of car sales could see vehicles dispensed like crisps and chocolate bars at the simple push of a button
FORGET soft drinks and crisps, vending machines are now in the business of dispensing cars.
A 15-storey building in Singapore is offering up luxury vehicles, including Bentleys, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, and is the largest “vending machine” in the world.

Used car seller Autobahn Motors opened the futuristic showroom in December, with vehicles on display in 60 slots just like you’d find your favourite chocolate bar or fizzy drink.
The dispensing concept is similar to that of a modern snack machine, too, where customers on the ground floor choose from a touchscreen display which car they wish to see.
Once selected, the car arrives within a few minutes, travelling down the middle of the building on a moving platform.
Vehicles on offer range from modern luxury sports cars to classics, including a 2014 McLaren 650s, a 2012 Lamborghini Aventador and a 1955 Morgan Plus 4, as well as a number of Ferrari, Bentleys and Porsche models.
Gary Hong, general manager at Autobahn Motors, said the vending machine format was aimed at making efficient use of space in land-scarce Singapore as well as standing out from the competition.
“We needed to meet our requirement of storing a lot of cars. At the same time, we wanted to be creative and innovative,” he told Reuters.
Hong also said he has been approached by developers interested in using the company’s Automotive Inventory Management System for parking services.

The concept could provide a solution to overcrowding in some of the world’s rapidly expanding major cities, and provide increased parking spaces where new development space is lacking.
Autobahn Motors are not the first car dealership to adopt the “vending machine” concept for their showrooms.
American used-car dealer Carvana also uses vending machine-like towers to sell their vehicles.
In March, the company opened an eight-floor structure that holds up to 30 cars in San Antonio, Texas.
